WHY ADVERTISE WITH THE MAC WEEKLY?
The Mac Weekly is the independent student newspaper serving the 1,920 students of Macalester College, as well as faculty, staff, alumni and the local community. The paper features campus and local events, the campus and Twin Cities arts scene, and coverage of Macalester athletics. Circulation is 1,500, distributed for free on-campus and at local businesses.

PUBLICATION SCHEDULE
The Mac Weekly is published on Friday mornings during the academic year, from September through May, with the exception of holidays and exam periods.

DISPLAY ADVERTISING RATES
The Mac Weekly carries five 2-inch columns per page. Each page has a printed area of 10 x 14.75 inches.

Advertising space for local advertisers costs $7.00 per column inch (2 x 1 square inch), which comes to $3.50 per square inch, with discount rates for full-page ads, half-page ads, frequent local advertisers, and student organizations. The display ad rate for national advertisers is $10.00 per column inch. There is an additional $10.00 charge for designing ads.

Full page (10” x 14.75”): $560.00
Half page (10” x 7.4”): $280.00
Quarter page (5” x 7.4): $140.00
4” x 5”: $70.00
4” x 3”: $42.00
2” x 2”: $14.00

The minimum ad size is 2 column inches. The Mac Weekly has no classified advertising.

PAYMENT
The Mac Weekly can accept payment in the form of cash or checks made out to The Mac Weekly.

After publication, the Ad Manager will mail a bill and a copy of the published advertisement to the advertiser. Payment is due within 30 days of billing.

DISCOUNTS
Local advertisers placing six or more ads per semester receive a 10 percent discount on the total cost. A contract is required if the ads are not prepaid.

Macalester student organizations receive a 50 percent discount for on-campus event advertisements.

PRE-PRINTED INSERT RATES
$250.00 per thousand papers. 1,000 minimum required. Contact the Ad Manager for details.

COLOR
The Mac Weekly runs full-color full-page and half-page ads at the base cost of the ad plus $300.00. Full-color ads smaller than a half page cost twice as much as black-and-white ads of equivalent size.

DISPLAY COPY DEADLINES
ALL ads are due by Monday at 5:00 pm, which is four (4) days prior to publication on Friday.

ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION
The Mac Weekly is produced electronically, including direct transmission to our printer. We accept ads on compact disk, via e-mail, or download from a client URL or FTP site. Ads with images should be submitted in a TIFF, JPEG or PDF format or as a clear hard copy.

THE MAC WEEKLY ONLINE ADS
The Mac Weekly receives about 30,000 page views per month; the weekly e-mail newsletter has 125 opt-in readers. A display ad on the Web site costs $10.00 per day. A banner ad in the weekly e-mail newsletter costs $35 per edition.

POLICIES
All advertisements are subject to final approval by the Editor in Chief and the Ad Manager. The Mac Weekly may reject any copy or illustration that does not meet its standards of acceptance.

The deadline for ad submissions is Monday at 5 pm, four (4) days prior to publication.

At the time an advertisement is published, the advertiser assumes the responsibility of meeting any and all billing requirements issued by The Mac Weekly.

The Mac Weekly reserves the right to increase advertising rates specified within this rate card at any time with at least thirty (30) days notice, with the understanding that if the new rates are unsatisfactory to the advertiser, he or she may cancel the contract at the effective date of the increase without a penalty.

The advertiser and/or advertising agency agrees to assume responsibility and liability for the content of advertisements and to defend and indemnify The Mac Weekly against any and all liability, loss, or expense arising from claims of libel, unfair competition, unfair trade practice, infringement of trademarks, trade names or patents, violations of rights of privacy and infringement of copyrights and proprietary rights resulting from the publication of the advertiser’s advertisement.

The right is reserved to insert the words “Paid Advertisement” above and/or below any copy that in any way resembles editorial content. The Mac Weekly shall not be liable for slight changes or typographical errors that do not decrease the value of an advertisement. Nor will The Mac Weekly be liable for any other errors appearing in the advertisement unless corrected copy is received before the copy deadline with corrections plainly noted thereon. Liability, where there is any, is limited to the cost of the ad in question.

Advertisers will be charged an additional $30 for any check returned by the bank.

Advertisements canceled after the publication deadline of Monday at 5 p.m. will be charged in full.

Display ad position requests will be taken into consideration but not guaranteed.

The advertiser’s submission of copy and/or images for inclusion in an advertisement shall constitute agreement to the above policies.
