the mac weekly has been a hostile environment for students of color for as long as I can remember-- 6 years now? This is cyclical and culutral. Sure, Zak, you may not be willing to interrogate that in a public forum, but I would really really really recommend some internal work. There are a ton of resources on campus (people & otherwise) that are available to you. Please use them to help make democracy in the student body more effective and powerful by incorporating a more legitimate representation of the student population at Mac.

Question: How are you defining students of color in your research? Macalester doesn't include non-white international students in that 18%. So, if you're including them in your count of the spotlight, you might want to reconsider the numbers.
