Thirty-three laps at the University of Minnesotaâ?TMs Olympic pool saw the end of senior Heather Lendwayâ?TMs collegiate swimming career, as Macalesterâ?TMs underwater marvel finished the mile swim in 17:28.56, good enough for 15th place at nationals and yet another school record.
Not surprisingly, it was her own mark that Lendway broke, clipping off nearly four seconds from her previous best time of 17:32.24 on the way to receiving a second straight All-American honorable mention. She improved by one place and about nine seconds from her 2005 1,650 yard finish on the national stage.
The only MIAC swimmer who qualified for nationals, Lendway also competed in the 500 yard free style and 400 yard individual medley taking 33rd and 28th in those events respectively.
Lendway leaves Macalester with school records in the 200 yard back stroke, the 400 yard IM and the 200, 500, 1,000 and 1,650 yard free-styles. She is also among the top ten all time performers in virtually every swimming event.
