Beginning Monday, April 9, in recognition of Asian and Pacific-Islander American Month, the Asian Student Alliance (ASA) will host a week of events focusing on issues of sexuality within the Asian American community.

Titled "Asian American Sex and Sexuality: the Exotification and Stereotypes of Asian Men and Women," the event series will aim to open a dialogue about issues which program organizers believe are discussed too rarely within the Asian-American community, or anywhere on the Macalester campus.

"We realize that certain experiences of Asian life are often ignored and passively put aside by many, including our own," Sophie Ngo '09, a program organizer wrote in an e-mail.

Ngo said, "The time has come to recognize the bigger picture and embrace the topic of sexuality within the Asian community."
