Macalester's football team won its season opener against Beloit, 34-21.

"Once is luck, twice is happenstance, but three times is the real deal," Macalester Head Football Coach Glenn Caruso said reflecting on the Scots' third unanswered touchdown against Beloit College last Saturday. Macalester looked like the real deal from then on as the team scored two more touchdowns, turning a 14-point-deficit into a 20-point lead.

Propelled by 430 all-purpose yards from Jacob McDonnell '10, a dominant performance by the offensive line, and solid defense, Macalester won their season opener 34-21. Tomorrow Mac will head down to St. Louis to play Principia College, looking for two wins in a row and something perhaps more significant than happenstance; if the Scots win, it will be the first time since 1988 that the program begins a season 2-0.
