Summer's fading quickly into fall, ladies and gentlemen.
Our mommies may not take us back-to-school shopping as they did when we were small, but it's an important time of year to take note of the latest trends and update our fashion game nonetheless.
Before I introduce the appropriate styles for Fall 2007, let's establish which summer looks must be shoved to the back of the closet.
Since Labor Day has passed, wearing white-especially pants, sundresses and shoes-is quite the faux pas. If you're adamant about wearing white, opt for cream or a winter white instead.
Another item that should disappear for fall-and forever-is the foolishness known as Crocs. Unless you're a gardener or a toddler, please stop! Crocs are the icing on the fug cake.
Since the weather's not cold yet, you may think it's okay to sport summer gear. I beg to differ. Espadrilles, gladiator sandals, woven belts, excessively torn/frayed denim, eyelets, and exposed guts (commonly known as a bare midriff) should all be hidden until spring.
Did I just nix your entire wardrobe?
Here's a list of Fall 2007 trends that will guarantee fierce style on campus.
1. Beanies. These simple crotched accessories are coming back with a vengeance. They're great for covering up a bad hair day or dressing down an outfit. You can find them at Forever 21, Urban Outfitters or Abercrombie & Fitch.
2. Vests. This tailored menswear garment is slowly penetrating into women's wardrobes. Pair one with a tee shirt and jeans to give a simple outfit a dash of spice.
3. Stripes. Vertical stripes are extremely flattering because they give the illusion of a slimmer silhouette. A striped tunic with leggings conveys an uptown chic debonair.
4. Skinny Jeans. No need to retire your skinnys, ladies: they are still very much in style. Don't be discouraged if you're not a size zero: there's a skinny pair out there for you.
5. Wide Leg Trousers/Jeans. If you're not a fan of the skinnys, wide leg pants are here to answer your call. Wide leg trousers are great for curvier women who feel that skinny jeans don't flatter their natural beauty. Just keep in mind that wide legs may seem a tad overbearing. Make sure to get them tailored if they are too long or baggy so they don't become street sweepers. Paired with cute heels and a fitted top, wide legs are hot.
