Former director of human resources dies

Former Director of Human Resources Elvin Duane died Sept. 22 from prostate cancer. He was 75.
Elvin worked at Macalester from 1969 to 2002. The college flag was at half mast earlier this week in tribute.
In addition to his time at Macalester, Elvin served for several decades in the Army National Guard, according to the Star Tribune. He enjoyed canoeing, jazz and travel. During his retirement, Elvin volunteered with the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic in Grand Marais and Grand Portage National Monument. He also served on the board of directors of YMCA Camp Warren, near Eveleth, where he had been a camper, counselor and canoe guide.
Elvin leaves behind his wife, Karen Blood Elvin; sister, Muriel Canterbury; sons, David and Peter; and daughter, Kristin Wekhing. In lieu of flowers, memorals are preferred to Camp Warren, 3425 Ihduhapi Rd., Loretto, MN 55357.
