Presidential candidate
By: Henrik Hakonsen
Issue date: 4/4/08 Section: Opinion
Being the president of MCSG, you represent the voice of the students in more ways than one. May it be administrative, academic, or athletic; you serve as a medium for communicating the thoughts - the feelings of the student body.
I believe we can do better in serving as the medium from which student initiatives get carried out. In my work as FAC chair, I have set high standards, not only for myself and my colleagues, but also for the students who seek funding for their passion. As your president, I will commit to ensure this standard across the student government.
The MCSG president serves as an ex officio member of all the commissions of the student government. It is especially important that the president work closely with the Financial Affairs Commission (FAC) and the Student Services Commission (SSC) as a resource for student organizations. Through my experience working on the Student Services Commission and my work as Chair of the Financial Affairs Commission, I believe I will be a valuable asset and source of knowledge for students on campus.
My relevant experience includes three years on the student government. I've been a member of the Student Services Commission, and involved in the leadership of several student organizations. For the past year, I have served as Chair of the Financial Affairs Commission (FAC). I've served on the Board of Trustee Finance Committee and the Resource and Planning Committee.
What makes me the best choice for president?
I've worked a lot with the administration, and I know where to go and who to talk to in order to get things done. I know how to run a meeting effectively and make your student government what it should be. As FAC Chair, I have gotten rid of much of the bureaucracy and paper mess that used to be associated with budgeting by making the process electronic.
I have the knowledge, experience and commitment needed to be a good president.
As your president, I will truly make the student government what it can be - a first class resource for funding, support and guidance for students wanting to make a difference on campus.
