Vice presidential candidate
By: Andrew Mirzayi
Issue date: 4/4/08 Section: Opinion
Hi, my name is Andrew. I'm a sophomore geography major from Littleton, Colorado.
As your vice president, I want to work to ensure every piece of apparel bought by Macalester is made in sweatshop-free and environmentally sustainable conditions, improve communication and openness between the student body and MCSG, support gender neutral spaces on campus so that all Mac students are comfortable with their housing and above all serve as a resource to students.
In addition I will continue and expand initiatives started by my predecessor such as the Facilities Management Appreciation Event, the captive audience updates and improving the MCSG website to be more useful to students and organizations.
I feel I am uniquely qualified to serve as your vice president. In my two years at Mac, I've founded a student org (Thistle Literary Magazine) and went through the org chartering process, served on the PCCC and CERF (both are efforts to improve sustainability at Mac), hosted 7 pfs, served up tons of soup for MacSoup, wrote for The Mac Weekly, gave dozens of tours and served on MCSG as a representative.
As vice president, I will always be available to you. So whether you have a proposal to bring before MCSG or just want someone to talk to, you can contact me. In fact, my email address is amirzayi@macalester.edu and my phone number is 303-908-6200.
I love Macalester, but I know it isn't perfect. As your vice president I hope to bring positive change to the community. Thank you for reading this, and please vote for me on Wednesday, April 9.
