With increased budget, security expands over last two years

Macalester Safety and Security released its annual crime report for 2007 on Tuesday, a compilation of crime statistics culled from police records and the security logbook. Few aspects of the report this year differ from predictions made by its authors earlier in the year.

Roundtable kicks off

Macalester's Institute for Global Citizenship kicked off its 2008 International Roundtable yesterday. Each year the Roundtable centers on a new theme, falling under the umbrella of globalization and the modern world. This year, the Roundtable will focus on the struggles of globalization and its tensions with development.

Student government VP resigns

Macalester College Student Government Vice President Chloe Mirzayi '10 resigned Sept. 24, and MCSG is holding an election to fill the position. "Chloe's resignation is something that we're all sad about, but we all support her in her decision," MCSG President Alison Tray '09 said.

Family Fest adds 'green' showcase

Family Fest is fast approaching and it looks green. While Family Fest will look the same in many ways, this year's programming will highlight Macalester's commitment to promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. "We want families to understand that we take the commitment seriously," said Dean James Hoppe.

MacBike stresses its own sustainability

MacBike is a small but active student org on the Macalester campus. The group promotes bicycling as an environmentally sustainable mode of transportation as well as an enjoyable activity at Macalester as well as in the Twin Cities area. This small but hard-working organization works to repair bikes, maintain bikes in the MacShare program, and plan bike trips.

Larger racks to be implanted at Mac?

With more bikes than ever before struggling for parking space on campus, Facilities Management has begun to consider the addition of new racks for students and faculty, raising questions about what racks to get, where to put them, and how best to maximize their utility for the community.

Now nerds can trade their favorite author for an evolutionary biologist. In an effort to remind the public and the student body that they have more to offer the world than football, Penn State designed a set of trading cards with the pictures and statistics of their famous faculty.
